Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school are exceptional. Many of them come from families that work when the sun comes up to sunset to provide for their children. A number of these families only have enough funds to provide their children with what is necessary to live. There typically isn't much left over to provide them with things they could use but don't necessarily need.
Despite this, they come to art class with a willingness to learn, explore, and innovate.
They are positive role models and leaders who help others daily at the school and continue to thrive within our class.
Many of the students in my advanced art class I have had consecutive years in a row because they have found within themselves a passion to create art. They see art's bigger purpose and some of them are already considering pursuing careers in this field in the future.
My Project
I have so many students who would benefit from getting to experience an art museum as prestigious as the SFMOMA. Many of them don't have the opportunity to go to museums very often, let alone one as awesome as this one!
During this trip, they will be active learners in their discussions about artwork, the intent of artists, the feelings they get looking at art, and think about what pieces speak to them and WHY they think that they have connected with this artwork on a deeper level.
This is going to be a fantastic experience for them to soak in artwork, analyze some of the artists they have learned about over the last 2-3 years in person, and enrich their lives.
