Being an avid reader myself, once I start reading a book it's hard for me to put it down before I'm finished. I would like to instill this love of reading to my 3rd grade students.
Approximately 80% of the students are on the free lunch program.
Even though some of them come from a lower socio-economic group, they come to school every day with an eagerness to learn. Our school is one of the few K-8 schools in the county and it's wonderful to see the older siblings take care of the younger ones.
My Project
The most wonderful thing about the Barnes and Noble Color Nook is that you can read books from the library on it. It will be like having the library at our fingertips. I will be able to download books from the library on it and students will be able to read them and once finished I can then download more books. Some of my students who are struggling readers will be able to listen to books read to them. My students love technology and having a classroom e-book reader will help excite them to read even more. After they finish reading a book they will be able to take a quiz on the book on the computer to test their comprehension. This project includes 2 covers and 2 anti-glare film packages so we'll have a cover and film for our other Color Nook that was already funded.
This project will make a tremendous difference in the lives of my third grade students.
They will be so excited to come to school to have a chance to read on the Color Nook. Of course the more they read the better readers they will become. I look forward to watching their excited faces when they see the Color Nook for the first time.
