Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are active learners who overcome obstacles everyday! I teach in a PK-4th grade Learning Center to provide Special Education. Many of my students are Native American or Hispanic and I want them to see themselves represented. Over 50% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. My students love kinesthetic projects, learning to read, art projects, and engineering projects.
They are working hard toward their academic and social goals everyday.
I love to see their faces light up when they read a new book out loud. They are having wonderful conversations about books.
My Project
These marvelous guided reading books will provide students with the opportunity for reading at their level. We will practice guided reading daily in small groups. My students love to visualize and draw their stories. We will use the sharpies to summarize stories visually.
These activities support their personalized academic goals and build confidence.
I hope this will inspire them to be creative and write their own stories. This will support their social and emotional learning by providing them the opportunity to see themselves as readers and writers. I would love for my Native American and Hispanic students to start telling their stories.
