This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are awesome! I teach at a Philadelphia Public School that qualifies for Title I funding. My entire class qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students live in a single parent household and some of them are being cared for by a foster family or extended family members.
Despite the challenges my students face, they come each day with a great attitude.
Many of them have faced hardships that you would never want any child to ever experience. I provide a safe, nurturing environment where kids can learn and progress.
My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting will help me to implement Writers Workshop in my classroom. We are in need of paper for authors to gather and record their ideas. The gel pens will allow them to choose the writing instrument that helps spark creativity. Binders will help us to organize our materials, keep up with original graphic organizers, and provide a place for directions and writing rubrics. As my inspiring authors gather thoughts and ideas, they will use Post-It Notes to record and take ideas back to their writing area to begin their assignments. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' writing.
By implementing the Writer's Workshop model, my students will become true authors and illustrators.
We will use these materials to gain skills as authors and illustrators. I have tried to begin Writer's Workshop model; however, I really need your support to make this model work and help my writers grow!
