Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"My love of fine art increased- the more of it I saw, the more of it I wanted to see." J.Paul Getty.
Some of my students have not experienced art due to their disability. I would like to increase their love of art and have similar art experiences as their non-disabled peers.
I have the privilege of providing art education to the students at urban elementary specialty school.
Myself, along with my co-teacher, have a mobile "Art-on-the-Cart" program due to the limited space in the building. Many of my students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade have unique needs that require creativity in making art accessible. All of the special education students have Visual Art 4 or 5 times a week.
My Project
My students need adaptive resources to help them experience art such as mounted table top scissors, universal cuffs, and light table to help with special projects. With these adaptive art materials, every student will have an equal opportunity to participate in Visual Art regardless of their level of ability. For example, Severe Profound Handicap (SPH) students will be able to cut paper using a scissors with the mounted table top scissors and the scissor assessment kit. This will useful for the students when making collages and mobiles.
I am requesting funding for adaptive art supplies for our art program to make the curriculum accessible for all student, even those with varied levels of ability.
Materials would include adaptive paintbrushes, grip-ease elastic straps, as well as additional technology-assisted resources. The school has 60% special education population and 40% general education population. Our special education population covers the full continuum from mild learning disabled to severe/profound. Materials would include adaptive paintbrushes, grip-ease elastic straps, as well as additional technology-assisted resources.
