Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My inquisitive third graders are currently in the middle of a Science unit about plant and animal adaptations for survival. They are learning so much about growing beans and studying crayfish, among other things! As a culmination to this project, I would like to take my students to an overnight workshop field trip on animal adaptations at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. At this event, my students will have access to highly engaging, hands-on scientific experiments presented by expert science educators. In addition we will be able to tour the park to experience the animals in their natural habitats, and perhaps most exciting: sleep in tents under the stars!
Because of the excellent reputation of the program and because of its close correlation with third grade standards, the parents of the students (and of course, the students themselves) are so excited for their children to attend. As you may imagine though, the price tag per child is quite expensive. The parents of my students are dedicated to contributing money to this field trip (through fund raising and small weekly contributions). However, almost all of them, as immigrants on low income wages, struggle just to survive. They want their children to attend, but for many of them, paying for a field trip is out of their financial ability. This is where I turn to you to ask for assistance. Your contribution will make it possible for five of my neediest students to attend. My hope and goal for this trip is that all students wanting to attend will be able to. Would you please help my students to take part in this amazing experience?
