My students need alternative seating such as a balance ball, soft seats, and beanbag chairs in their kindergarten classroom in addition to their formalized chairs and tables.
My students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, academic abilities, and loving families. They come to school to learn as much as they can within the limited time we have together. They strive for not only success in their current school year, but overall success towards their journey in to their college and careers. My students love to learn and are always asking for innovative ways to do so. Their inquiries in their academics are fuel to my instructional models.
My Project
Children need to move while they learn, and these wobble chairs will help them do that. They need the opportunity to move about the room and experience learning with a variety of seating opportunities. Studies show that some children are unable to sit in a chair for long periods of time without the opportunity to move and yet we have moved to full-day kindergarten and more structured learning settings with little emphasis on the whole child. The requested beanbag seats, soft seats and balance balls will give my students another option. Children need to move while they are learning. Some children do best if they can move their legs continually or wiggle their hips. Some children need to rock back and forth while listening to a teacher read a story. Some do best when they can sit on the carpet and rest on their tummies while they learn. Not all children are the same and some of the best classrooms out there today are ones that recognize that there is a very strong link between child success and alternative classroom seating.
