This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is made up of excited seven and eight-year-old students who love to come to school! They are eager learners and they are excited about what they can learn each day. My students come from low-income families who have very little money for extras. They have few opportunities to participate in art activities at home. I want them to have the opportunity to participate in art every week, but we need the materials to be able to do this.
My Project
Every week we study interesting concepts in Reading, Science and Social Studies. I want my students to be able to express themselves and extend their learning in these subjects through art activities.
I want them to have weekly opportunities to do art by painting, making collages, cutting, gluing, and creating, and to have the freedom to express their ideas.
By creating art, students will extend their learning about characters, setting, and sequencing by being able to retell a story through pictures. They can illustrate land forms, slow and quick changes, people of different cultures, nature, holidays, families and many more.
