My classroom looks and sounds very different than the typical classroom. In it you will find students learning in small groups spread all around the room. We are just missing one thing - comfortable seats for each of my lovely learners!
I teach 2nd grade at a public school in Kentucky.
My students, just like most 7-8 year olds, work and learn best when they are comfortable and able to balance their focus with their fidgety needs. Some students prefer to stand, while other students prefer to be up and moving while they are learning. It is important to meet the needs of each and every student!
My Project
Because of the active classroom that I have, it's important to find a balance in engagement and comfort. Students will use the balls, pillows, and chairs to make their classroom a home away from home. This will allow them to feel comfortable but also to be actively engaged in the centers or small group learning that is taking place.
My classroom is sure to show improvement by allowing students to be their 7-8 year old selves, with all the movement and activity needed to keep them engaged.
They will not be limited to sitting in a plastic chair with a desk all day, but instead these materials will allow them to fulfill those wiggly needs while still allowing them to remember their purpose as students and stay active and engaged learners!
