My students need different seating options that consist of stools and yoga balls so they can choose from when completing independent, small group, and whole group work.
This project would benefit not just my indivudal students but also those in the classroom we blend with. This year it would reach 40 students however reach more students in the years to come. My students have a variety of disability classifications. Some of these classifications consist of a speech and language impairment, other health impairments, learning disabilities and Autism. With this group of learners I provide instruction based on their individualized learning needs. I provide delivery of my instruction in a variety of ways. I also make sure that my students have repeated exposures to the content. Once a skill is understood many different opportunities are given to the student to independently practice the skills so that they develop confidence with the topic. When an idea or concept becomes mastered students will continue to practice to improve fluency and attain mastery.
My Project
All of my students want to be able to be successful in the classroom but many of them struggle to focus on the given tasks. These yoga balls and stools will allow their bodies to move while their brains can focus on the academic tasks.
Given my population of special education students alternative seating is extremly important.
The yoga balls and holders will allow the students the support needed to regulate their emotions in a safe way. The stools will provide the students with an additional type of seating within the classroom setting that is more inviting and more conducive to small group work.
