Our school district serves approximately 671 students. The district is described as a seven square mile area that tends to be rural with an Appalachian culture in southwest Ohio. With a decline in revenue, our school district is the fourth poorest in Ohio's school systems.
Our school district may be small, but it is with purpose and intent that there will be a turn-around with a new focus of administration and staff.
The average median income is $24,930.00. This is a community in which the majority of the residents live below 200% of the federal poverty level. In addition, 96% of the students are economically disadvantaged and are eligible for free or reduced rate lunch.
My Project
Funding of this project would allow our art room to have alternative seating and have comfortable areas for learning, collaboration and reading. I would like to create a book nook area where students can read about art and research. For the book nook area, I am asking for a Nugget couch and bookshelves. This couch is easy to clean and will come apart for even more seating options. The stools and cushions would allow for even more collaboration opportunities and offer an alternative to our normal seating.
I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with hundreds of unique learners of all abilities and I want to be able to them give them opportunities to learn in different ways comfortably.
The different stations and seating in my room would allow students more ownership of their learning as they would have the freedom to choose the area they want to work at.
Thank you so much for supporting students' learning!
