My students in Harrisburg and I have created an amazing learning community! We promised each other at the start of the year to take care of ourselves, the classroom community members, our classroom , and how to solve problems peacefully.
Our diverse learning community supports and encourages each other as we learn together!
My learners are frequently observed reading to each other, helping each other think through how to solve a math problem,and give reminders to classmates to use previously taught strategies for self-regulating their behaviors. We celebrate each other's success with praise and positive language.
We are a unique group of individuals that have created a safe, learning community that makes me look forward to each day! I love my kids!
My Project
Our hard working learning community needs alternative seating. Research shows alternative seating increases student engagement and the student's sense of well-being as they have a choice of where to complete their work.
The students will have a choice of where to sit when completing small group, partner, as well as independent work.
I have chosen the stools, which will be used when I am teaching two small group reading intervention lessons daily (45 min block). The intervention reading group that I am not working with will have the choice to use the yoga ball, the floor cushions, or the Sofa Sack while they complete their independent work. My homeroom learning community will have the ability to sign-up for their choice of alternative seating when completing their independent or partner work in reading and math daily.
Our learning community members value their power of choice as they know what works best for them!
