I work in an Upper Elementary classroom (grades 4-6) in a Montessori School in South Carolina. Our read aloud time has become one of my students' favorite parts of the day. I sit comfortably on my floor pillow at the front of the room and read a chapter or two from the book we are currently reading together.
I want to create a reading nook in our school where the students can sit comfortably and read to themselves!
How can I expect students to sit on hard chairs and concentrate on reading when I do not even do it myself? Using balance balls and learning stools in the classroom has been proven to increase focus and stamina in students with the added benefit of strengthening their cores!
My Project
This is my first year as a teacher and one of my goals this year is to create a beautiful and comfortable reading space in my classroom where the students can sit comfortably and escape into the world of the book in their hands. One of my favorite quotes by Dr. Seuss is, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more things you learn, the more places you'll go."
I believe that enhancing our reading nook with balance balls and learning stools will create a much more enjoyable reading experience for the students.
If they love to read, they are bound to succeed! Thank you for helping me reach this goal!
