I teach a wide range of students: from language learners to AP students, special education, to just regular education. Many of them sit for close to 7 hours a day in hard chairs which were recycled from our old cafeteria. So... it is time to use research-supported strategies and upgrade our seating for our high school students! I have asked our local community for other options like bar tables and stools, we are now ready to get rid of some of our chairs and offer the option of exercise balls!
By incorporating flexible seating options--exercise balls-- in my high school English classroom, I will be able to provide the following: student choice, physical health, comfort, community, collaboration, and a commitment to learning. When students have disabilities, either physical or learning, school can be a challenge. By offering flexible seating options, students will have the opportunity to focus and learn as they "bounce"
or "move" during our 1 hour and 25 minute learning periods.
I even have one student who has scoliosis, and flexible seating options with help that person's educational experience. Please help us change the educational experience for these teenagers today!
