My students need amazing books to read and fun places to sit! I am asking for stools because my students love to read, and they are so interested in sitting someplace other than their desks!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am one of the fifth grade teachers at a Title I school located on the East End of Henrico County. I teach, learn, and grow with a diverse and amazing group of 10 and 11 year old students each and every day. My fifth grade class is over 20 strong. Over 85% of my students identify as African American, and approximately 80% receive free and reduced lunch.
This year, I am looking to make sure that each of my fabulous fifth grade students make it through the day with everything they need to love learning!
I want school to be a safe place where we can play, grown, and learn together!
My Project
My students love to read, and more than that, they love to be out of their seats! Reading is a huge part of being a fifth grader! I'm trying to gain some alternative seating and some great books to get my students interested in reading.
I want my students to feel excited to get out of their desk and get lost in a book!
With these stools and books, I'm hoping my fabulous fifth graders will feel drawn to reading and learning. It's important that fifth graders build their stamina, and I'm hoping reading in some fun seating will do just that!
The books I chose are books that my students adore! I have asked for many of the "Who Would Win" books to help my students with comprehension of nonfiction books. I've also asked for graphic novels such as Awkward, Brave, and Invisible Emmie to help my students be able to relate to literature and see that it can come in many different forms.
