Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school has a very rich inclusive environment. We feel that we are always welcome and we truly belong in our school. During school activities, I enjoy seeing my students being respected and accepted by general education teachers, school staff and students. I teach students with mild to moderate disabilities in a specialized program. Most of them students have Autism and Speech and Learning Impairments. I have 9, K and 1st grade, students with wide variety of learning needs. They have different learning styles, strengths, likes and dislikes. We are currently working really hard on our fine motor, academic, sensory and social skills to be able to be ready for our inclusion and mainstream opportunities after our winter break.
Although my students struggle with the use of traditional classroom materials, they still work hard to learn, and focus during core academics and have fun at every activity that we do in our classroom.
My unique students would soar high if they have opportunities to use more non-traditional classroom materials, differentiated classroom and hands-on learning experiences. Given the opportunity to supply our classroom with alternative materials will greatly impact their ability to focus, increase independence and provide positive learning experience.
My Project
My unique students would soar high given the opportunity to use classroom alternative materials, non-traditional classroom materials like magnetic letters, alternative chair like wobble chair and hands-on learning experiences like the wooden puzzles.
The donations to this project will help provide positive learning experience for all my students.
Magnetic Letters will be used for spelling and building sentences. Wobble chairs are great alternative seating for my students who
needs release energy while simultaneously working. Wooden puzzles are important for their Cognitive Skills; Problem Solving; Fine Motor Development; Hand and Eye Coordination and Self Esteem.
Alternative classroom materials will greatly impact their ability to focus, increase independence and provide positive learning effect to maximize their potential in spite of their special needs.
