Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students span across four preschool special education classrooms and a preschool inclusion program for students ages 3 to 5. All students have social, communication, and behavioral differences that require special services and supports to access their education. Our students are eligible for special education services with classifications such as autism, speech-language impairment, ADHD, intellectual disability, and hard of hearing.

Our students are working on self-help skills, pre-academics, and communication in order to prepare for kindergarten.

Our school is located in a high poverty area with families that have limited access to developmentally appropriate toys, books, and activities. Our students depend on school to access these resources and to further their development. The majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and attend a Title I school.

My Project

Alphapals are giant, plush, rainbow letters. Our 3-year-old early learners often start school having a hard time engaging in the curriculum. Many have strong special interests that we make sure to integrate into our classrooms to increase learner engagement. One of the more common special interests is letters and numbers.

Seeing such a novel, colorful, and interactive alphabet set will immediately grab our students attention and help them settle in to their new environment!

I can imagine these alphabet letters used during interactive circle time, perhaps with the classic book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Thank you for your continued support of our classrooms!
