I am a kindergarten teacher in a Title I school. My school population has shifted in the past few years, and this year we are giving every student free breakfast and lunch to meet their basic needs. No child should have to come to school hungry. By providing food for all students we are enabling our students to focus on learning instead of their hunger. Many of my students do not have a lot of parent support at home, and many lack exposure to technology and many experiences. I want to make up for these lack of experiences by exposing them to as many new experiences as possible through books, hands-on activities, and technology. My school is also very transient with students moving in and out of the school constantly. Near my school is a large military base, and many students move in and out throughout the school year as their parents receive new orders. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful!
My Project
My students need hands on materials that focus on the alphabet, letter recognition, and word building to explore with at Learning Center time. Our students will use these materials to explore their ability through building and making letters and sounds, and then words! These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together. They will be able to use these manipulatives during our whole group and small group time, learning letters and sounds as they make words as we explore literacy skills.
Your generous donation to our project will improve our K classroom by building a stronger reader and writer.
This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
