Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title l school in Salem, Oregon, where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. As a kindergarten teacher, I work hard to make learning engaging and fun for my students.
My students walk into class each morning filled with curiosity, energy, and a contagious eagerness to learn.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Many of my students speak languages other than English- including Spanish, Marshallese, Vietnamese, and Chuukese. They love to learn and every student tries their best every day.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help my students to practice important kindergarten skills in a fun and hands-on manner.
Strong early literacy skills including letter identification, letter sounds, and phonemic segmentation are imperative to becoming literate students and having future academic success.
The alphabet center pocket charts will allow for children to practice letter identification, letter sounds, and sorting in a fun hands-on manner. The letter stamps will also be an interactive method for students to practice letter identification, letter sounds, and to, eventually, build and spell words.
The "How to Read a Story" book will be a great starting point for students to learn about the importance of reading stories to become literate students. This book will serve as a catalyst for teaching students to be independent readers, and in turn, become independent learners throughout their academic careers.
