My students need Magnetic Letter Builders, Alphabet Bubbles, a Five Senses Theme Box and other alphabet learning tools to make our classroom centers more enjoyable!
I have 32 wonderful and bright students. They are all eager to learn many things in kindergarten. As a new teacher, I am motivated to bring new and exciting ideas into the classroom. I teach low income students in a Chicago neighborhood. My school is great; unfortunately, it lacks the necessary funding that is greatly needed. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit student learning which is most important to me as an educator. Without funding, the students are not given supplies needed to complete the school year.
I teach ESL students reading, math, writing, social studies, and science.
My students love participating in centers for reading and math, but I would love to incorporate a writing center filled with the right materials.
My Project
Last year, our schools were given $46 million dollars in budget cuts midyear. There were 356 teachers and 600 support staff let go as a result of what they described as "enrollment changes, program adjustments and/or changes in students' academic needs." My students and I have been affected by the budget cuts as we do not have the necessary tools in the classroom to have a fun and motivating learning environment. It is up to the teachers to find a way in which the students can learn to the best of their ability.
My students needs alphabet centers to hold their attention and motivate them while playing.

A learning center is a self-contained section of the classroom in which students engage in independent and self-directed learning activities. A learning center is a space set aside in the classroom that allows easy access to a variety of learning materials in an interesting and productive manner.
