Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Baltimore City middle school classes are such an exciting group of special needs students with mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, problem solve and calculate, while some of their classmates are focused on attaining life skills. Our group loves to use computers, perform experiments, play outside, learn new games, and dance to a sweet tune.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach an eighth grade inclusion math class; six to eight self-contained science class; and a six to eight ELA class. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
My Project
In preparation for the upcoming return to school, children may be required to remain in small, sectioned-off areas. How can we make this fun? We will encourage students to move while learning! Help them strengthen their core muscles and move while working at their desks. These wobble chairs will allow students to wobble, wiggle, rock-and-roll while working. Imagine how much fun they will have at their socially-distanced desks/work spaces being allowed to move! The requested class head-sets will allow them to work at their own pace using audio features without disturbing their peers. Please donate to this fun, action-packed project!
