Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Working with students who grow up in an area of extreme poverty is an incredible challenge and gift that I get to experience each day. I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of learners. About 40% of the students at our school are English Language Learners, coming from many different countries around the world.
Urban school students often do not have access to the resources they need to truly engage in meaningful learning experiences.
100% of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students do not have access to books or computers with internet access. The needs at our school are extremely high, but our students have so much potential to succeed.
My Project
In my classroom, students frequently engage in project based learning experiences. As they investigate different phenomena, conduct experiments, and collect evidence from various texts, they then must communicate their findings in a visual manner. Some students might do this via a slideshow or other digital presentation, but we do not always have access to enough computers for every student. Instead, students often need to create physical presentations to communicate what they have learned with others.
With your donations, students will be empowered to create high quality presentations that they are proud of.
When they are given access to the resources they need, my students produce incredible work and demonstrate what they are truly capable of.
I am also asking for a whiteboard calendar, so my students are able to track their progress on different projects. This will encourage students to take more responsibility for meeting deadlines and will help them to be more accountable for their learning.
