Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm sure this has been said and heard time and time again, but my students are my kids. Each year is a special and unique group, but they always have one thing in common. My students need to feel loved and important.

Sure, math and reading are essential, but my biggest job is to make sure my kiddos are confident and kind leaders who know they have a cheerleader behind them.

This is even more important now that COVID has affected our lives. Now, more than ever, I want my students to know that there are people out in this world rooting for them. I hope my classroom is a place of fun, comfort, and lots of rich experiences. My kiddos come from great families but they are families that work and work just to make ends meet. My hope is that the kiddos can come to their "home away from home" and be surrounded by some of those things that they don't get at home. My dream is for every student to have amazing books, supplies, and items needed for a creative, innovative, and exciting learning environment. I want my kiddos to have the world at their fingertips.

My Project

Think about how most kids are rewarded for their efforts. Candy? Free time? Pencils?

Now, imagine students excited to earn tokens to receive amazing books of their choice to keep and treasure forever.

Well, that is exactly what our school is trying to do. Our school will be purchasing a book vending machine and students will earn tokens to buy books. The buzz of the machine has students beyond excited. Now, all we need is books to fill it. The books we have selected will be for every grade level and for every type of reader. These books will go directly to the kiddos. We can't think of a better way to grow life long lovers of reading!
