I'm a Resource teacher working with a diverse group of special needs students ranging in ability levels. My students need support with reading, writing, math, and executive function skills. I service students with attention deficit disorder, processing delays, and a variety of other learning disabilities.
Optimizing resources to support optimum learning is our goal.
My students are eager learners who have individualized education needs that I want to target when I have the opportunity to work with them. Our time together is quick and valuable. Providing resources in our classroom that are easily available, efficient, and accommodating is a necessity and a benefit for these students.

My Project
We are using a reading program in our special education Resource class that is structured with direct, intensive, and explicit instruction. The program uses a multi-sensory approach that includes auditory, visual, and kinesthetic techniques that keep students engaged. We have recently transitioned to the program's digital version which utilizes new technology for reading phonogram cards, manipulating sounds, building and decoding words, and comprehending text; enhancing the multi-sensory approach.
When the activity is presented on an iPad, the students are especially engaged, encouraging simultaneous participation in the group.
But, we don't have enough iPads for everyone in the group sessions for the reading program. The students arrive in the classroom ready to work. The program can be administered quickly and the students can participate together efficiently, reading, and learning together. With your help in donating towards the purchase of two iPads, we can have them available for all of our students attending their session in the Resource program, enabling effective group reading and learning.
