My students need hands-on materials such as a butterfly habitat, life cycle kits, and more to further explore science concepts. We have limited budgets that don't allow for detailed studies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you caught a frog? Or the first time you saw a caterpillar on a tree? Having the chance to watch animals go through their life cycle is an experience my students won't forget!
My students need these kinds of experiences!
Due to the fact that many of my students have parents that work second and third shifts they don't get the chance to spend much time outside. This limits the opportunities they have to interact with the natural world. These materials will allow them to watch the miracle of life cycles! It will also deepen their understanding of life science topics!
My Project
The resources I am requesting will allow students to explore the life cycles of 3 animal groups. Imagine one week watching caterpillars hatching, then the next watching fish and finally watching chicks hatch! These kinds of experiences will stay with my students long after they leave first grade! It will also deepen their understanding of our roles as stewards of our resources.
Building on children's natural curiosity of the natural world will ensure that they will be fully engaged in the science lessons.
All students, especially first graders, are naturally drawn to animals of all kinds. These materials will deepen their wonder while teaching them the foundations of life science!
