Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Every person that studied a career in science or engineering has had classroom experiences that inspired them. Our Title I school is very resource-challenged and we have just started an introduction to an engineering class that is in need of hands-on lab materials.

I have the good fortune of teaching students who historically have been written off by others.

I teach in one of the most impoverished areas of Georgia but I teach students of limitless potential. I teach students who are incredibly passionate and powerful and who attend a Title I charter school. Over 90% of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program, but they come to school with a passion for learning that rivals any social-economic group.

My Project

Automation is changing the future in ways that educators have not completely grasped. Creating opportunities for students to experience the technology of the future in their current classroom is critical to help prepare them for this uncertain reality.

The 3D printer will give students a chance to learn computer-aided design skills that are essential to future manufacturing.

The Sphero robots will allow students a fun way to experience coding with a circular robot.

The students will also have a chance to build a robotic car that they can both program and manually drive.
