After 18 years of teaching in both private and public schools, both in the same community, I have never seen so many people pull together to conquer the devastation that happened to our town and school community. After a summer of preparing my classroom, I finally got to meet my new 1st graders and their parents for a quick meet and greet. I NEVER dreamed that it would be a month later and in a local church that I would be seeing them again for the 1st day of school. Some had lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of security. Some students had to be rescued from their flooded home by a boat to get to dry land; however, through it all, they showed up with smiling faces ready to learn.
Fair isn't everybody getting the same thing, fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be successful.
Our school is now operating in a local church community and we are so thankful for their hospitality and support. The church, our parents, our students and staff have all pulled together to make this school year as normal as possible.
My Project
My students are in need of new student desks. Currently, we are so thankful to be using a local church facility and my students are working on tables. New student desks would provide personal space, making it much easier to store their supplies, and provide a sense of normalcy to my students.
All things are possible for those who believe.

Throughout the challenges that may lie ahead, I know this project will be so beneficial to my classroom and our school. I know it is an expensive project but they will serve many students throughout the years to come.
