My Students
My students are pre-school students with a variety of special needs. We work on their individual speech and language needs every day. When they are able to communicate, that is one step closer to gaining independence in the classroom and at home. The students also have educational goals, social goals, receive occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Every day is a new challenge for the students and for the adults in the classroom. The children are lovable and sweet and we are trying to get them prepared for kindergarten.
My Project
All of the students in my classroom are special education students. Some of them are non-verbal and many of them are working on improving their language skills. We work on teaching them to request desired items appropriately.
This summer we are redesigning our classroom to encourage language development.
Many of the toys will be in clear bins and the children will learn to request their favorite toys. Not only will they learn to request, but also to initiate with adults in the classroom.
This redesign will also help during play. We can structure language activities according to their favorite toys, such as describing and sorting.
