This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite differences in background, education, or economic status, all parents want the same thing for their children. Parents want their children to have a limitless future filled with choices. However, some parents are better resourced, than others, to assist their children in achieving those goals.
Experience tells us that learning doesn't take place only in a classroom.
We also know that what happens at home can impact what goes on in school. The results, both positive and negative, are often reflected in
At our school, we work hard to not only provide quality experiences for our scholars, but to engage our parents as well. Through events such as Curriculum NIght or quarterly Data Talks, parents and teachers have the opportunity to discuss scholars' progress. Our staff has also begun conducting Parent-Teacher Home Visits in an effort to foster deeper connections and relationships.
My Project
Our school has invested heavily in programs that will help students to address their deficits while accelerating their learning. The beauty of these programs is that struggling readers are not expected to independently read instructions and navigate through the platforms on their own. However, they need to be able to hear the audio. Having high quality headphones will allow students to conntrol their own volume in small or large settings while being actively engaged.
In our school, students are not only encouraged to use technology, but expected to on a daily basis.
There are myriad programs available to students and the research behind almost all of them suggests that students can expect to see academic growth if they actively utilize these programs for at least 45 minutes a week in conjunction with actual teacher instruction. Unfortunately the headphones we had at the beginning of the year were not constructed well and have not stood up to the daily use of multiple students.
