My students need ink for our classroom printer and a VGA adapter for the Smart Board.

Debating is one of the perks of English class. We do it every day. Learning how to disagree with one another in a respectful manner is a necessary life skill for students to learn. It traditionally happens at the end of class so that students walk away with something to talk and think about.
My students are some of the most insightful people I know.
They may be young, but they are talented and bursting with ideas and opinions about the world around them. Underneath all the moaning and groaning around doing work, they secretly enjoy having their stance on issues challenged. Since they attend a performing arts high school they are accustomed to pushing the envelop with their art. My job is to get them to push their reasoning skills beyond just the bare minimum. They are extremely creative and willing to try and learn new things.
I follow the teaching philosophy of "seek and you shall find." I try to instill this life choice within my students. Therefore, my units always involve some sort of research component. This is why I placed the school provided laptop in the resource center of my classroom. Students take turns researching various concepts as they see fit. If they wish to print an article that they will draw information from, they have an option to do so through the classroom printer. I also use the printer to print extra copies of assignments for students, which means that ink is liquid gold in our academic world. We also need a USBc to VGA adapter to connect my personal laptop to the Smart Board for lessons and presentations since the school provided laptop is for student use.
We live in a very digital age where all sorts of information can be found online and a VGA adapter will allow me to use my personal computer for lessons while students use the school's laptop.
Many of my students do not have easy access to a printer and they are not allowed to use their cellphones in class; therefore, the ability to print their research will give them a sense of ownership in acquiring their own knowledge.
