Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My position is the school librarian and I serve approximately 450 students from PreK to 8th grade. All students attend weekly one-hour library classes where students are taught to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Many of our students don't have a way of getting to the public library and look to the school library to provide all the books and technology they read.
Our students are from low-income families. All students receive free breakfast and almost all receive a free lunch.
Unfortunately, as a result of the current budget crisis, our school does not have the funds to purchase the required materials for the library.
My Project
We need Chromebooks to read online books, access databases for research, and to create projects using Google Apps. With these Chromebooks, students will collaborate on assignments, do online editing of projects and receive all feedback electronically from both teacher and peers.
I also serve students with special needs who have mild to severe autism, as well as students with specific learning goals.
My students have unique needs but all are very eager to learn using computers. With Chromebooks, they can read online books as well as practice reading skills through online reading programs.
These Chromebooks will ensure that all my students have the opportunity to achieve academic success in today's technological world.
