Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a school where 54% are English Language Learners and 93% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. With students coming from different walks of life, diversity has become the school’s strength.
Every morning, my 24 first graders come to school eager, enthusiastic, and ready to learn.
With a remarkable “I think I can” attitude, these anxious six-year-old students are extremely excited and receptive to all new learning taking place in class. At the end of the day, they feel proud of what they had accomplished. My striving Rockstar scholars deserve the best, so they can achieve their dreams.
My Project
My students are all eager to learn how to read, and they need access to books that they can read independently at their instructional level or zone of proximal development. More so, they need a regular diet of challenging complex texts to sharpen their analytical skills.
By donating to our project, my students will be able read fiction and non-fiction books, which they will read together in their guided reading groups.
This will boost their word study and comprehension skills.
By the end of the year, my students will be able to make one and a half years of reading growth.
