My Students

Our school is the oldest public school building in Illinois. Our building may be timeworn, but our staff is dedicated and first class! We serve mainly low-income families with a large population of English language learners. Their experiences outside their homes are few, so we work hard to bring the outside world to them. My primary classrooms consists of a mix of kindergarten, first, second, and third grade diverse learners. All at different levels, all with different needs and abilities. Their curiosity and love of learning keep us striving to find new ways to engage them.

My students come to school each day, and they try, and they work, and they do their best.

My students deserve a teacher that is equipped with strategies and interventions that will help them become better readers.

My Project

One in five students, or 15-20% of the population, has a language based learning disability. The Wilson Reading System (WRS) has been proven to work when other programs have failed.

This reading method uses visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile senses to help kids make connections between sounds and words.

It teaches the student how to fluently and accurately decode words.

I want to be the best educator I can be. This training will help me become better equipped to reach and teach all students with poor word decoding skills at all grade level.

Best practices and keeping learning fresh are important aspects of teaching. Finding new and innovative ways to find success for all is extremely important.
