Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is busy. We have 10 students with special needs. They use picture and word schedules to transition throughout the day. I would like for my students to have mastered 80-100% of their goals and objectives for the year and to have acquired more useful functional skills.

It is very active and never a dull moment. My students are hard working and enjoy earning their rewards for their work. I feel that greater progress could be made having their sensory needs better met. We attend a public school and everyone is very friendly and accepting of our students. Our administration staff loves us!
My Project
The weighted vests and compression shirt will allow for my students to receive their sensory input needs in a socially appropriate way. The vests will minimize jumping, running, bouncing, touching, and other sensory seeking behaviors.
The rocking chair will offer them an option for a calming activity when overstimulated. They love to sit in the rocking chair in the library! The trampoline will also address receptive sensory needs. The one available to the classroom is missing 3 legs. Being able to better address the students sensory needs will allow them to better focus on behavior and academics.
Donations made to this project will improve our sensory center, or lack there of.
Individuals with Autism have varying sensory needs that can impede their learning. It will change my students for the better in giving them ways to appropriately address those sensory needs.
