Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the subjects in school that were difficult for you to learn? Do you ever wish your teacher was able to teach those skills and concepts in a more engaging way? I hope to do just that by using interactive charts and activities on an easel to make learning more fun!
I teach a group of 26 1st grade students who come to school with a lot more on their minds than what they will learn that day.
Our school is 83% socioeconomically disadvantaged, receive free and reduced-price lunch and 80% are English language learners. The majority of my students are in need of constant encouragement in order to stay focused in school and to care about learning as well as their future. My goal is to make learning fun and readily accessible so that each student, regardless of their lack of English or academic skills, feels empowered to succeed.
My Project
Having an easel to effectively model and teach reading, writing and math will give students the visual aid they need to help them better understand what they are learning in class. This easel will make it easier for myself and the students to write on charts when we do interactive reading, writing and math activities. It will also be a great reference tool for them to look back on when they are working independently.
Every day students are expected to learn so much more than ever before and this easel will encourage more engagement and connections to learning.
We will be able to use the easel for whole group instruction with shared reading, interactive writing, choral counting and with solving math problems together. Students will also be able to use the boards on this easel for word work and math games with easy access to the learning materials needed in the storage attached to the easel.
