This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students have orthopedic and developmental challenges and are in a preschool environment. Daily, we work on walking, pre-academics, communication, and daily living skills. For most of our students, this is their first classroom experience.

Our students are in wheelchairs and are nonverbal.

They are able to communicate through vocal output devices, eye gazes, and gestures. We practice walking, standing, and sitting daily. The thing that the students enjoy most is being able to participate in activities with the least amount of physical restrictions.

My Project

Our project is for an eye gaze board which would allow our nonverbal students to make choices with their eyes during the course of the day. The board is see-through, so it allows adults working with students to see what choices they are making. The eye gaze board package includes a mountable clip. This clip allows the board to be placed in accessible positions. Colorful pictures will be used to help students make choices, communicate, and be able to choose daily activities that they have an interest in. The eye gaze board will be used in all activities during the school day to give students access to communication. All students deserve the opportunity to communicate their wants and needs throughout the school day.
