Mrs. Peterson from Moss Point MS is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need reading materials including a Reading Comprehension Games Library, 2 Magnetic Sight-Word Sentence Boards, and a set of Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Cards to help them improve their reading skills.

All of my students read below grade level. I think that this year could be the year that they start to realize that reading is more than words on a page, but that reading a book can take you anywhere you want to go; from exploring the depths of the sea to the stars in the sky.
My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders and are severely lacking the basic skills in reading.
For the most part my students are eager to learn but because they are so far behind in reading skills they are easily discouraged. Our school is in a Title I school district. The entire school receives free breakfast and lunch.
The reading resource materials I have chosen for my students will help them achieve the basic of reading and work their way towards a higher reading level. We plan to do a lot of centers with the materials I have chosen such as the Reading Comprehension Games Library. This will allow students to learn as they are having fun. None of my students read on grade level and being a middle school we do not have a lot of books to choose from on their level, with the Lakeshore Nonfiction Sight-Word Readers - Level 2 will allow my students to have books in the classroom on a level they can comprehend. The Twist & Turn 4-Letter Word Builders - Set of 10 will allow my students to make words from their seats and the teacher will be able to monitor the students progress without them being embarrassed when they make a mistake. Having materials on my students grade level will greatly improve our learning environment.
Even though my students are in middle school they are all on 1st-5th grade reading levels.
Our library really doesn't have books on their levels and having these materials in the classroom would benefit them greatly in reading and comprehending what is happening in the stories. Having materials that are on my students level will help them have better understanding of what they are reading which will boost their confidence and perhaps allow them to read aloud without the fear of being ridiculed.
