My creative Kansas kids consist of PreK & Kindergartners living in a rural community with combined grades and limited resources. They love to explore new topics & interests. We recently discovered a love of counting and reading with fine & gross motor manipulative.
Their faces beam with excitement when using new technology, participating in hands-on projects & discovering new books.
Building on our math and reading is a huge part of our everyday. These skills are a fundamental part of early childhood learning. We can't wait to create a more interactive learning environment with our new manipulative's.
My Project
Purposeful play is a huge part of early learning. I want to provide my students with a variety of fine & gross motor manipulatives to integrate more play into their education.
Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning, as stated by Mr. Rogers.
Play-based learning creates positive emotion, which the Center of Development and Learning states can greatly enhance learning.
These manipulatives can be used across all subject areas. They can create a story and provide a hands-on & visual approach to the curriculum. The possibilities are endless. Examples of how we could use our new counters include: building numeracy, create and retell stories, sort by attributes, create patterns, make shapes, measuring, and building.
Incorporating an oil diffuser is a great way to provide a more calming environment with soothing scents and give the opportunity for aiding as a decongestant when cold weather moves in.
