Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have an incredible group of curious 2nd graders at a Title 1 school. Every student at our school receives free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also very diverse; out of the 22 students in my class, 14 are minorities. My students are very curious about the world they live in. They're always asking "why" questions. To help them develop more understanding about how things work in the world, I would like them to experience some hands-on science projects. One of our State science standards is to learn about life cycles. The kit I am requesting is The Life Cycle of Butterflies. With this kit, my students will track the changes that butterflies make throughout their life cycle. I can just picture the looks on my students' faces as they realize that a caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly. Experiences like these make the knowledge gained stick for a lifetime. These are the moments that make me want to work harder as a teacher so that my students get the education that they deserve. Please help my students learn more about the world they live in!
