This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year I will start my school year in my special education, emotional support classroom with 10 students. Each of my students have a difficult background in which they come from. Our school is in a high poverty area and I want to make their time with me as comfortable and special as I can for them.
"The kids who need the most help, ask for it in the most unloving of ways." All of my students have had some type of trauma in their life which affects their daily behavior in school.
These students can not cope with emotions or feelings and display them through negative behaviors. Although all of the students have behavior issues, they are all loving, sweet, and caring children most of the time. They make it easy for me to go to work each day knowing I have the opportunity to help make their day a little bit brighter.
My Project
These materials will have a positive impact on the social emotional learners in my kindergarten through second grade special education setting. The learners in my classroom need frequent sensory breaks to help them be successful throughout the day. Each student works diligently on a daily basis to earn positive behavior incentives and rewards. Having these sensory materials, will motivate them to better reach their goals.
I chose a storage unit to house these items so everything is neatly organized and easily accessible for the students in my classroom.
I also chose manipulatives that will enhance their numeracy skills. These games/manipulatives will be stored in the large colorful bins I also chose for this project. The items in this project such as; the peg boards, bead patterns, count and link set, and pattern block cards. I think all of these items will help my students not only sensory wise but also academically.
