My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with a variety of challenges both inside and outside of my classroom. Despite said challenges, my students start each day with a desire to learn and grow. My students work hard to be successful in their academics.

My classroom is a diverse and innovative educational community.

Many of my students have come to fifth grade performing below grade leveI. However, I believe that through both words and actions all of my students can learn and be successful.

My Project

Scholastic News is a great way to engage my readers! Scholastic News magazine brings high-interest current events and nonfiction to millions of classrooms each week. A school year's subscription of Scholastic News will get my students engaged in their own learning and expose them to student friendly journalism. Scholastic News enforces a variety of reading skills such as, authors purpose, cause and effect, critical thinking and much more!

Research shows that student engagement leads to an increase in reading fluency, which in turn results in better comprehension skills.

Scholastic News provides a variety of engaging topics in each issue, nearly guaranteeing for engagement of each and every student.

Scholastic News is the perfect tool to engage my students, build their non-fiction reading skills, and increase content-area knowledge!
