This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I have 18 beautiful first grade students in my class this year. They are eager to read and write and especially to learn math. I have noticed that, these days, science has been pushed aside because the standardized tests focus on reading and math. Six year olds should be wanting and willing to get down and dirty with science experiments, but they just don't seem to care anymore. I remember when I wanted to become an inventor when I was in first grade, because of all the science experiments I did in school. What could happen if the next generation doesn't know much about science, in this technological and science driven world? I would like to do my part by getting my students excited about science again. Ms. Frizzel from the Magic School Bus makes science fun and engaging. I would like to have a full set of Magic School Bus books and DVDs (I already spent my own money to buy my classroom a DVD player). Please help me build a classroom full of scholars and mathematicians, AND scientists.
