My students need 6 Amazon Fire tablets for kids and 6 pairs of volume controlled headphones in order to create a multi-use learning center in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In this high tech world there are times that my easel and I have a hard time competing for the attention of my modern tech savvy students. Students need and enjoy multiple opportunities to engage in learning activities that are fun, independence building, stimulating and challenging.
My second and third graders are resilient, resourceful, smart and lovable.
Things don't come easy for most of my students. They have to work hard for their gains. We have come a long way but there is so much more to accomplish this school year. Our school is small and challenged economically. Most of our students live below the poverty line. This means that we have limited funding options when seeking to add something new to our classrooms.
My Project
There is so much to do with educational tablets! The Amazon Fire tablets for kids come with a subscription making hundreds of educational apps available. My students will be able to utilize reading and math apps that are appropriate for their functioning level. Students may build on foundational concepts or work towards a new skill using apps that are geared towards their ability and needs.
Students will use the tablets for independent practice of taught skills in small groups or individually. In addition to the apps that are available students will be able to download books for guided reading activities. The tablets will add variety and excitement to regular class lessons and exercises.
I know that my students will benefit from using tablet technology in the classroom on many levels.
Tablets will make practice more fun, present concepts in new and innovative ways, and expose students to the types of technology that they will need to be more and more fluent in as they move through school. Providing my students with tablets will help to shrink the gap between them and students who have access to technology in their classrooms. A gap we all want to close.
