My kindergarten students need 4 books about starting school, folders, pencil pouches, crayons and assorted paper.

I teach kindergarten in a low income area. The racial makeup of my classroom is very diverse. Many of my Hispanic children are English language learners.

Many of the students will face a new world the first day of kindergarten. A child may get off the bus, with no supplies, no sense of direction, seeking his/her classroom with no parent to console him/her.

I simply need basic supplies to get my children started. The list of supplies I have requested are what each child needs daily to do his/her classwork, along with a few books about starting school and kindergarten. We begin name writing, tracing, coloring, cutting and gluing. From there we begin with letters and numbers, and eventually reading. Hopefully these supplies will last the entire school year. I buy what I can with the help of my assistant teacher. We love our students and we don't want any child to be without what they need.

Your help will ensure that my students will have a chance to start on the "right track." They cannot help their situation, but with the right guidance and caring, they will have a fighting chance. I will send a picture of our first day of kindergarten and all the precious children you helped!
