"Children learn by doing, and play is their work." ~Unknown. My students are very creative children, and many of them do not have the supplies at home to make things. By having various arts and crafts supplies in the classroom, I can help foster their creativity throughout the school day.
I teach kindergarten in a Title One school in Indiana.
I have twenty two students who range from the poverty level to middle class. Many of my students come from a low income household. Over seventy percent of our school population receive free or reduced lunch. Many students are raised by a single parent or grandparents. I have students who came to kindergarten not knowing their letters, numbers, and even did not know how to color. Their attention span is short, which is why I do my best to make our lessons fun for them. One activity that keeps them all interested is when we make crafts in the classroom.
My Project
With these art and craft materials my students will be able to be engaged in their learning and project making. The students will utilize the stamp pads not only for literacy, but also for art projects. The wiggly eyes are always a big hit when we are creating faces. They will create art projects to decorate our hallways and classroom. My students get excited when they see their creations hanging in the room and hallway. I see the pride of accomplishment on their faces and it warms my heart.
Some of my students state they do not have crayons, scissors or glue at home.
I do not only what to help them educationally, but also creatively. These materials will enable their creativity and imagination to grow as they create various projects for home and school.
