My Project

I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that serves many Navy and Army families in Hawaii. The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our preschool through sixth-grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. Last year was a difficult year for my students due to the pandemic. Thankfully we have returned to an in-person learning model this year. My library has reopened for classes and the upper-grade students utilize Chromebooks during their library research lessons. These lessons reinforce concepts and skills being taught in the classrooms, supporting pandemic-impacted learning.

I would like to give my students a way to keep the Chromebooks charged and organized.

Our current cart only charges half of the Chromebooks at a time. This leaves many computers charging in multiple locations throughout the library.

In addition, my students need a wire mail cart to pick up and deliver library books to their classrooms. With the pandemic, my students do not bring their bags and belongings during Specials rotations. Instead, their library books are transported to their classrooms using a flimsy cart. A new cart will ensure we can continue library services for my students following health and safety protocols and encourage independent reading.

Finally, three novels written by Kelly Yang would make wonderful additions to the library. She is an award-winning author who is very popular with my students.
