My students live in a small rural community. My school serves K-8th grade students. The school library provides books and services to all 9 grades. Most of the students here are from low-income homes or homes where English is a second language. They wait patiently every morning for me to unlock the library door. They come to the library for a variety of reasons, to read, check out books, get warm, use the computer, and other activities that I provide for them.
My students need books about other cultures, people and choice. The books that I have requested will be a good start in helping them along this path. The books entitled "The Day You Begin" and "All Are Welcome" are picture books that will help all ages of my students to understand that all students are welcome at our school.
"The Angry Cookie" and " What Should Danny Do" will help them learn ideas and skills to handle their emotions and see things from another person's point of view.
Thank you for considering funding of this much needed project. These books will be enjoyable to read while also teaching about diversity.
