Help me give my students picture books and news magazines that represent, welcome, and empower ALL our children. Please help us with comfortable seating and fidget toys for our kids who need them.
California is known for its diversity, and we are very lucky to have that in our school!
Many learners at our school come from the Philippines, India, Mexico, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Pakistan, Vietnam, and other countries.
Being the oldest elementary school in Union City, we also have students who have had many generations who grew up in our district, and now have kids and grand kids attending our schools.
We are a Title I school of almost 900 students from K-5, including 6 classrooms of students with Autism. Our API score continues to grow. Even with many challenges, our students are at 852, well over the California standard of 800. We, the staff and families, strive to live up to our Principal's favorite mantra, "It takes a village."
My Project
Providing and using literature that represents all our students and encourages critical thinking is vital in our classrooms. With these books and news magazines, we will be able to practice important comprehension strategies and skills, and inspire our children.
We also have a diverse class of learners who need different things to be successful.
Many of our students need to keep their hands busy while listening. Fidget toys enable our students to move without bothering others around them. Lastly, Bean Bag chairs give the kids a comfortable space to work on and classrooms absolutely need a good pencil sharpener. An electric pencil sharpener is an essential that many classrooms do not have.
