Help me give my students Carolinas Young Scientist Eye Dissection Kits to help engage them in learning more about organs and body systems in our upcoming Life Science Unit.
This project expired on January 17, 2020.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach awesome Mini-Scientist in the 5th grade at a rural public school. Many of my students are often captivated by the experiments we perform weekly as they are able to later explain what they did, why they did it, and how. Their ability to explain each of these things is important as they develop scientific inquiry.
In our classroom we celebrate each other's success and growth because we know science is hard but doable.
Our class begins each and everyday by focusing on vocabulary to increase our ability to comprehend science related reading comprehension. Thus far they've collectively learned over 100 new science words during the 1st quarter of school. We've performed over 5 major experiments together and I look forward to getting these awesome Mini-Scientist to perform even more on their own, collecting and tracking scientific data every step of the way!
The Young Scientist Eye Dissection Kit will enhance student learning of organs, specifically the eye, commonly found in each organism. Aside from identifying body parts on paper by providing a live hands-on experience will aid learners who are kinesthetic, visual, and even verbal learners. Using the Eye Dissection Kit students will be able to identify the parts of an eye which connects back to the critical skill of students being able body parts and eventually systems.
Each kit comes with a teacher and student guide as well as online support.
This type of support will help scaffold information using student friendly terms and images which is valuable in a science classroom much like ours where we celebrate every type of learner. This type of early exposure will further enhance student scientific inquiry and potential achievement upon assessment on body systems and organs.
