This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach elementary music to a very diverse group of K-5th graders. They are eager and willing to try anything that I throw at them in the classroom. They love hands-on activities where they get to explore new ways of thinking. They also love the inclusion of science, math, and reading that I incorporate into my lessons. My students come from various ethnic groups, prominently African America and Hispanic because of this reason I often include lessons about their specific cultures and many other cultures throughout the world.
My Project
This bass xylophone will help students in the classroom where they are taught various styles of music through the Orff Schuwerk Approach for music education. This instrument will allow the student to learn how to independently play an instrument in compositions as well as create their own compositions. The instrument will also be used during performances throughout the years. The bass xylophone is typically used to play the bordun or the baseline of most Orff-influenced orchestrations to accompany any song. I'm sure my students current and in the future will benefit from this instrument greatly.
